Nepal got another victory in New Zealand in the second match against Canterbury. Previously, Nepal got the victory against Canterbury Selection by 8 wickets, but the today’s Canterbury team was quite stronger in comparison to previous one.
After winning the toss, Nepal elected to bat first, and gave the target of 211 runs losing 9 wickets in allotted 50 overs. A top knock from Gyanendra, 47 runs from 74 balls and 43 runs from 32 balls by Gyanendra helped Nepal to post a respectable total. Other batsman, 26 runs by Sharad and 26 runs by Paras before retired hurt, guided Nepal to competitive score. Pradeep Airee and Binod Bhandari were not at best while openers Anil Mandal and Mahesh Chhetri contributed 18 runs and 16 runs respectively to the total score of Nepal.
Basanta didn’t only accelerate the run but tumbled the wicket of Canterbury Batsman regularly, he took 3 wickets, and all those batsman fell in lbw trap of Regmi. In his 10 over spell, he gave 19 runs, 3 maidens and took 3 crucial wickets. While Sompal Kami, Avinash Karn, Sagar Pun and Shakti Gauchan shared 1 wicket each in their name, and 3 batsman were run out, and Canterbury lost the game by just 6 runs and lead their total to 204 runs losing 9 wickets in 50 overs.
Nepal will play their third match tomorrow against the same team, and will look forward to the official warm up matches against Namibia and Kenya on 10th Jan and 11th Jan respectively.
