Nepal finally won the first game in ICC ODI World Cup Qualifier, 2014 which was played at Bay Oval No.2, Mount Maunganui. After winning the toss Nepal elected to bat first. Pradeep Airee and Mahesh Chhettri opened the batting line up for Nepal and made 33 run partnership. Nepal lost its first wicket at the score of 33, where Pradeep Airee made 23 runs from 32 balls and struck one fours and 1 sixes in his name. Immediately Malla failed once again without double figure mark was caught in the bowl of Davis Arinaitwe, as he handed easy catch to Patrick Ochan. Malla departs at the score of 46, where Nepal lost 2 wickets. Wickets in the whole series kept on tumbling of Nepal Cricket Team regularly, and even this time the wickets kept on falling, Mahesh Chhetri 19(43) returned to pavilion as a 3rd wicket at the total score of 70 run and very shortly Paras Khadka 30(56) caught out by Charles Waiswa at the score of 99, David Arinaitwe took the wicket of skipper of Nepal. After that Sharad Vesawkar and Prithu Baskota accelerate run of Nepal and made a good partnership, while Sharad played defensive and from the other end Prithu was playing aggressive shot, Prithu Baskota made 59 runs from 51 balls before he was retired hurt due to knee injury, Sharad and Prithu collided each other during the course of run between the wickets, as he suffered the same injury. Prithu Baskota missed the T20 world cup qualifier in UAE because of knee injury, and once again he suffered from it, the injury was serious and Prithu was taken to hospital immediately after the collision. After Prithu was retired hurt, immediately Sharad 41(69) lost his wicket, caught by Selowa in the bowl of Charles Waiswa. Binod Bhandari blitz 35 runs from 21 balls and strucked 3 sixes and 2 fours which helped Nepal to post the target of 241 runs. Nepal made 240 runs in 49.3 overs losing 9 wickets.
While from the bowling side of Uganda, Charles Waiswa took 3 wickets in his 10 over spell giving 55 runs. Davis Arinaitwe, the economic bowler for Uganda, where he gave just 23 runs in his 10 over spell and Faruk Ochimi shared 2 wickets each in their name.
Nepalese bowler were well set up and creating pressure for the first time in the tournament against Uganda batsman since from the beginning chasing the modest total of 240, where Sompal plumped 2 early wickets in his name brought a deep trouble to Uganda batting line up. They looked like, they were never chasing the target because of continuous fall of wicket, and Uganda batting line up was completely destroyed by Nepal in just 80 runs in 36.3 overs. Sagar Pun of Nepal took 3 wickets while Shakti and Basanta took 2 wicket and 1 wicket each respectively.
Nepal ended as 9th position in ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, 2014 after beating Uganda by a huge margin of 160 runs.
