Zohra comes up with the unique concept; Ncell to sponsor Nepal Premier League.
Zohra Sports Management (ZSM) in technical support of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and sponsorship of Ncell announced on Monday introduction of first ever domestic cricketing event in Nepal – Ncell Nepal Premier League.
Ncell Nepal Premier League will be organized through April to May, 2014, during which Two-Day, 50 Overs and T20 Tournaments would be held respectively in Dhangadi, Biratnagar and Rajbiraj, and Kathmandu.
Six teams owned by different business houses would be contesting for the prestigious titles in Ncell Nepal Premier League. Ncell Nepal Premier League has prize money of Rs 200,000 each to the winner the T20 and 50 Overs and Rs 100,000 for their runner up teams. Likewise, winner of the Two-Day Tournament would receive Rs 150,000, while its runner up would get Rs 75,000.
Apart from the prize money, ZSM has also provisioned match fees to the players playing in Ncell Nepal Premier League aiming to assure income and support professional growth of the players.
In order to give international touch to the domestically played NPL, ZSM has allowed the team owners to bring in any two international cricketers, except those banned by International Cricket Council (ICC), to play for his/her respective team.
“Ncell Nepal Premier League is going to be a historical cricket tournament played domestically with an international touch,” said Aamir Akhtar, managing director of ZSM. .
ZSM and CAN have done an exclusive agreement to introduce Ncell NPL for Three years to start with. Ncell is the exclusive sponsor of Ncell Nepal Premier League till its concept is valid in the country.
Sanju Koirala, corporate communication of Ncell expressed happiness to be associated with cricket. “We believe the Ncell NPL games will be helpful for the overall development of Nepali cricket. Such activities will play a vital role to identify, nurture and groom new talents who can contribute in the national and international levels of cricket,” she added.
President of CAN Mr. Tanka Aanghbuan and Member-Secretary of National Sports Council Yubraj Lama also thanked Ncell and ZSM for the Ncell Nepal Premier League, citing it would immensely contribute to overall development of the Nepali cricket sport. They said Ncell NPL would enhance the base of Nepali cricket domestically, enable Nepali cricketers to gain much needed technical know by playing with international/overseas players, help to decentralize cricketing activities in various parts of Nepal and facilitate the national team to become used to playing cricket of various formats.
Nepal’s National Coach Mr. Pubudu Dassanayake also praised Ncell NPL for initiating era of much needed domestic cricket tournaments. “It’s important for players’ advancement and professional growth,” he stated. He even thanked Ncell, ZSM and CAN for incorporating two-day tournament in the League. “The longer version of cricket would allow every local cricketer to master and exhibit technical skills,” he stated.
According to ZSM, teams that would be playing in Ncell NPL are Tej (owned by Panchakanya Group and captained by Sharad Veshwakar), Colors X Factors (owned by Teletalk Pvt. Ltd. And captained by Gyanendra Malla), Vishal Group Warriors (owned by Vishal Group and captained by Parash Khadka), Kantipur Gurkhas (owned by Kantipur Publications and captained by Basanta Regmi), Jagdamba Giants (owned by Shanker Group and captained by Shakti Gauchan) and Sagarmatha Legends (owned by Ghorahi Cement and captained by Binod Bhandari).
